What Does Homeschooling Require?

This is the first in a four-part series about the requirements of homeschooling. It’s not what you might expect; it isn’t a professional background in teaching. It’s not replicating school at home.

There is a myth going around in the homeschool world — a BIG myth. 

The myth says you need a curriculum – or a PROGRAM – to homeschool your children.

These programs claim to be the answer to all of our questions, problems, and fears.

I disagree with the myth.

I’ve homeschooled my children on my own, without a curriculum or community, and those were sweet days full of wonderful memories. My children learned a lot in those years.

I have come to the conclusion that homeschooling requires 4 simple things: 

Commitment. Love. Courage. Consistency.
